2010 New Orleans Saints The Defending Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints open preseason on the road against the New England Patriots. The team has made few moves as of yet, releasing only a handful of players (D’ Juan Woods, Jamar Nesbit, Mark Simoneau and Charles Grant) and signing a few active roster personnel.
The Saints are in good shape roster wise and have very few immediate needs. The loss of Scott Fujita will have some impact but Head Coach Sean Payton feels confident in ability of Jonathan Casillas and Jo-Lonn Dunbar who impressively filled in for Fujita when he was injured. Other minor concerns for the team are at defensive end and defensive tackle. At end, Will Smith had 13 sacks but will the team will benefit from a young pass rusher who can also support the run. The DT position is the biggest concern as the Saints allowed 122.1 yards a game on the ground. Either a sold backup or someone in the middle will help to slow the run in 2010.
2009 New Orleans Saints
In his third season as the Head Coach of the Saints, Sean Paton looks to improve on his 8-8 record. In the offseason, the team resigned to key players MLB Jonathan Vilma and OT Jon Stinchcomb to five-year contract extensions. The Saints also released WR David Patton and, because of salary cap problems, RB Deuce McAllister. In the draft, the Saints picked up Ohio State CB Malcolm Jenkins which should help the secondary out immensely. Look for Coach Payton to lead his Saints back to the playoffs.
2008 New Orleans Saints
The 2008 team led by Sean Payton improved on their 07 record of 7-9 with an 8-8 record. With their bevy of running backs, the team had running backs averaging, 3.8, 3.9, 4.8, 5.4 and 8.3 yards per carry. RB Deuce McAllister was released in February 2009. |
